Around the Track Golf Cart Tour (Churchill Downs)

Get ready to embark on the most exclusive tour Kentucky Derby Museum has to offer! The Around the Track Golf Cart Tour takes you through the history, pageantry and legacy of the Churchill Downs Racetrack and the Kentucky Derby. You will have a totally unique experience at the home of the "Greatest Two Minutes in Sports," from the grandstand to the backside and everywhere in between. You’ll begin from the outside grounds, travel through the Paddock, then relish a morning rail side workout session. Next you’ll travel through the famous infield tunnels to the backside to enjoy an up close and personal view of the horses, jockeys and trainers and see the barns that once were home to Thoroughbred legends like Secretariat, Barbaro and American Pharoah. The tour wraps up with lunch in the private Post Time Kitchen, with a unparalleled view of the track and famed Twin Spires. After lunch you will return to the Kentucky Derby Museum, where you will enjoy two floors of interactive exhibits that bring the extraordinary experience that is the Kentucky Derby right to you! The Around the Track Golf Cart Tour is limited to six guests. As of 7/1/18, Kentucky State law requires the Museum to collect 6% sales tax on all tickets and memberships sold both through its website and in person.

Barn and Backside Tour (Churchill Downs Backside)
From 8/14/2018 through 11/30/2018

This is a guided van tour of the "other side" of Churchill Downs to see racehorses in their environment. More than 1,400 stalls dot the back of the track and most are full during the peak seasons. On any given day of training, visitors could see a 2-year-old in line to win next year’s Kentucky Derby, a veteran runner nearing retirement or the Derby winner themselves. Stops will be made for picture taking at the track (time and weather permitting). This exclusive one hour tour is offered only to guests of the Museum. This is a great tour for horse lovers, but please note that guests will not be able to touch the horses. This tour is usually available late March through November 30th of each year. Tour availability for the week before the Kentucky Derby each year is shown under the "Derby Week Barn and Backside Tour" heading, and check out the "Breeders' Cup Barn and Backside Tour" heading for the period 10/29/18 through 11/3/18. As of 7/1/18, Kentucky State law requires the Museum to collect 6% sales tax on all tickets and memberships sold both through its website and in person.

Behind the Scenes Tour (Churchill Downs Grandstand)
From 8/14/2018 through 3/15/2019

The Behind the Scenes walking tour brings Museum guests into many exclusive areas of the Churchill Downs racetrack, including Millionaires Row, the Matt Winn Dining Room and the Jockeys' Room where riders prepare for all of their races, including the legendary Kentucky Derby. Bring your camera for the many picturesque views you will spot from all points on this tour! Visitors also get a look at the member’s only Turf Club and the Fourth Floor Balcony, providing opportunities for photos of the track, legendary Twin Spires and the city. This tour is only available on days when there is no live racing at Churchill Downs. Live racing typically occurs 4-5 days a week from mid-April through the end of June (including the time where the racetrack is preparing for the Kentucky Derby) as well as the months of September and November. Children under five are free with no ticket required. Note that the Jockeys' Room at Churchill Downs Racetrack can only be accessed via a small set of stairs and is not fully accessible. All other parts of the tour are fully accessible, and guests who are unable to travel to the Jockeys' Room may return to the Museum early since that will be the last stop on the tour. Please call for more information before you purchase a ticket if you have a questions about accessibility. Twilight Tour (Churchill Downs Grandstand at Night)

The Twilight Tour of the Churchill Downs racetrack is your all access pass to see the beauty of the track at night under the glow of the infamous Twin Spires™. Take a stroll through the courtyard, paddock, grandstand, Turf Club, Millionaire's Row, the Stakes Room & stop on the Balcony next to Twin Spires™ overlooking the track. Bring your camera for the many picturesque views you will spot from all points on this tour! This tour offers a truly insider view of the non-public areas of the Churchill Downs racetrack. As of 7/1/18, Kentucky State law requires the Museum to collect 6% sales tax on all tickets and memberships sold both through its website and in person.

REGULAR SCHEDULE
7PM on the Third Wednesday of Every Month March-September. In October, the "Horses and Haunts" tour takes the place of the Twilight Tour, and the Twilight Tour is off November-February.
Race Day Golf Cart and Walking Tour (Churchill Downs)

Join us for an exclusive tour that takes you through the history, pageantry and legacy of the Churchill Downs Racetrack and the Kentucky Derby. You will have a unique experience at the home of the "Greatest Two Minutes in Sports," from the grandstand to the backside and everywhere in between. You’ll begin in the Kentucky Derby Museum with a self-guided exhibit tour and a showing of our signature 360-degree video presentation, The Greatest Race. At 12:30, the group will hit the track and watch live racing from a selection of locations. You will stop off at the Paddock and travel through the famous infield tunnels to the backside to enjoy up close and personal views of the horses, jockeys and trainers and the barns that once were home to Thoroughbred legends like Secretariat, Barbaro and American Pharoah. The four-hour program wraps up at your personal box seats in the Churchill Downs grandstand, where you can spend the rest of the afternoon handicapping after the tour ends at 3:30. The Race Day Golf Cart and Walking Tour is limited to six guests and will go out rain or shine, so please dress appropriately for the weather with comfortable walking shoes. Horses and Haunts Tour (Churchill Downs Grandstand at Night)

Let this tour take you back in time to visit the spirits on the darker side of the track. Hear stories of legends and lore as you are guided from the Kentucky Derby Museum’s cemetery to the sixth floor of Churchill Downs. The tour runs every Wednesday in October and lasts for about an hour and a half. As of 7/1/18, Kentucky State law requires the Museum to collect 6% sales tax on all tickets and memberships sold both through its website and in person.

Breeders' Cup Week Barn and Backside Tour (Churchill Downs Backside)

Join us for some Breeders' Cup horse spotting! There's not a more exciting time to visit the ‘backside’ of the racetrack than the week of the World Championships, back in Louisville for the first time since 2011. Experience the hustle and bustle firsthand in this exclusive van and walking tour. Visitors will take a ride to the other side of the track into the barn area. Do not forget your camera (flashes must be turned off) because there will be many opportunities for photo-ops. This tour offers great insights about the workings of the racetrack, care and attention to the horses and the history of this world famous track. Whether you are a racing novice or a frequent fan, this tour through the barn areas will be a hit. This exclusive tour is offered only to guests of the Museum. This is a great tour for horse lovers, but please note: guests will not be able to touch the animals or enter the shed rows. Tour guides, when possible, will point out the barns where the Breeders' Cup contenders are housed in preparation for the weekend's races. Seats are limited since the group is transported to the backside in a van. This specially priced tour is available the the Monday-Saturday of Breeders' Cup week.
