1917 Omar Khayyam Tac Pin
This pin honors Omar Khayyam, winner of the 1917 Kentucky Derby with Jockey Charles Borel up. Omar Khayyam’s race looked bleak, as he started badly and was racing in 10th place around the first turn; however, in a powerful rush Omar Khayyam took the lead from Ticket in the final stretch to win the race. Omar Khayyam retired to Charlottesville, VA where he stood as a stud until his death in 1938. He was bred by Sir John Robinson, owned by C. K. G. Billings and Frederick Johnson and trained by Charles T. Patterson.
