1958 Tim Tam Tac Pin
This pin honors Tim Tam, winner of the 1958 Kentucky Derby with jockey Ismael Valenzuela up. Tiring Lincoln Road by racing hard and fast from the middle of the field, Tim Tam pulled off a win. He would go on to win the Preakness and was favored to win the Belmont, but had to retire due to a leg injury before the race. He was one of the many outstanding horses produced and owned by Warren Wright at Lexington, Kentucky’s Calumet Farms. His trainer, Horace A. Jones, was the son of famous trainer Ben A. Jones, and had already won the previous Derby with Iron Liege. Despite his early retirement that barred him from an almost-certain Triple Crown win, Tim Tam received an induction to the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame in 1985.
