1988 Winning Colors Tac Pin
This pin honors Winning Colors, winner of the 1988 Kentucky Derby with jockey Gary Stephens up. She was the 3rd and last filly to win the Kentucky Derby, following Regret in 1915 and Genuine Risk in 1980. In the Derby, Winning Colors raced fiercely, finally overtaking Forty Niner to win. She would go on to win the Belmont, but not the Preakness. Winning Colors was bred at Echo Valley Farm, owned by Eugene V. Klein and trained by U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee D. Wayne Lukas. In 2000, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame as well.
