2006 Barbaro Tac Pin

>This pin honors Barbaro, winner of the 2006 Kentucky Derby with jockey Edgar Prado up. Barbaro was the betting favorite in 2006 because of his undefeated record; he did not disappoint, winning the Derby by 6.5 lengths over Bluegrass Cat on the final stretch. In the Preakness, however, Barbaro would irrevocably damage his right hind leg, necessitating his immediate retirement from racing. He would struggle with health issues for the remainder of his life. In honor of such a fantastic horse, Churchill Downs erected a monument to Barbaro at Gate 1 of the track. His ashes are interred on the grounds.

Barbaro was bred and owned by Lael Stables and trained by Michael R. Matz.

A Kentucky Derby Museum Exclusive. Pin measures 0.75 X 1.
